£5 Challenge in aid of Rotary Polio Charity

Last week saw students of Alameda Middle School take up the £5 Challenge. This was for the Charity Rotary who are dedicated to eradicating Polio. Although Polio has not been seen in Great Britain and Ireland for many years, it is vital that we help Rotary continue their efforts to eliminate the disease worldwide in order that it never returns.

Students at Alameda Middle School helped Rotary, by taking Part in the £5 challenge. Students were given £5 and they had the challenge to turn that £5 into £10, £15, £20 or more. The students involved were very creative with their challenges, setting up a great variety of stalls. These included cake stands, and stalls selling books, loombands, biscuits, Lego and even origami. The challenge ran from Monday to Friday, every break and lunch time and it was fantastic to see the effort that all the students put in to helping such a worthy cause.

Alameda would like to thank parents and careers for all their support and help with the challenge and also all the students who took part. Last year the school managed to raise £550 and this year we raised an incredible £907:36.
