Access to the school site

As part of our ongoing investment in improved safety around the site, we have had automated gates installed on the main drive just before the staff/visitor car park. These gates will be in operation from 7th January 2019. This means we will finally be able to secure the perimeter of the school during the working day.

The gates will be closed during the school day between 8:15 am and 3:45 pm and access to school during these times will only be possible with the use of a security pass or by contacting reception via the intercom link. Our front office team will be able to open the gates to allow access but you may be asked to wait before the gate is opened if your arrival coincides with a high traffic period such as a lesson changeover.

Please stop at the line and press the intercom button, when the front office team reply, please state your name and your reason for visiting. They will then either ask you to wait or will open the gate.

Please wait until the automatic gate is fully opened before driving through. Do not try to follow the vehicle in front as the gates may close.

There will, however, be no access past the F block (the black and grey check building near the visitors’ car park) during the following times when pupils will be moving around the site:

  • At morning break 10.50am-11.10am
  • At lunch break 1:10pm-2:10pm
  • At lesson change times throughout the day (you will be advised of this when you contact our front office team via the intercom)

As you will be aware, parking on the school site is extremely limited and we ask that you use the one way system marked out around the staff/visitor car park. If you need to visit the school during the day you must park in the designated visitor spaces. Please not drive up to the main office unless you need to park in the disabled parking bay. Please adhere to all the traffic signs on site.

We ask that you avoid driving onto the site where possible and use the “safer routes to school” access behind Parkside Hall off Woburn Street. Thank you to the vast majority of families who do this, and we hope having a senior member of staff there at the end of the day has been a positive move.

We also ask on behalf of our neighbouring school, that you do not park in any of the spaces designated for the Firs Lower School as this has created problems for them in the past. Please do not drive into the turning circle to drop off children in the morning or at the end of the day as it is very unsafe for the children and causes problems for the school buses.

Please note that those of you who use after school club will be able to collect your children as normal by parking in the visitors’ car park and walking to Kids Club.
