At Alameda we pride ourselves on ensuring our pupils have opportunities to engage with different career opportunities throughout Key Stage 3 as well as Key Stage 2 pupils gaining these experiences.

The careers programme involves students being introduced to a wide range of activities which give students the opportunity to view, learn and engage with various different career paths. This includes learning about qualifications required, career prospects, salaries, qualities and skills. Students are able to assess their own likes and dislikes with regards to what kind of career might be suitable for them. The following areas are covered in our careers programme:

Year 5

Living in the wider world - Being Safe unit
Lesson	Content

7	Emergency services roles identified
A school trip to MK Safety Centre – Hazard Alley is involved. They will see a workplace of those in the centre delivering the sessions, interact with emergency services and look at risks for some work environments.

 

Year 6

In Year 8 we offer pupils a chance to take on the responsibility of becoming an office assistant for the day, they get to experience a day being in a working environment and it develops many skills.

 

Trips – At Alameda there are a wide variety of school trips which are linked to curriculum, rewards and leisure. Every trip provides the pupils with the chance to experience a different workplace and develop their understanding of the roles within that workplace.

How do we measure and assess the impact of the careers programme on pupils?

Before the start of the units, students are asked to rate their level of knowledge regarding careers, where they see themselves going and how to achieve these steps. By the end of the unit, we then ask the students again, which we can measure what they might be interested in.

All pupils study a unit of careers within their PSHE lessons and will also receive career education through all areas of the curriculum.

We always welcome the opportunity for local colleges and organisations to come into school and discuss with our pupils their future career opportunities.
