Year 4 Q&A

Q. Will teachers that are setting additional homework to ensure that children are writing this down in their homework journal? Or will this homework be communicated via a different method? Asking on behalf of a disorganised 9 year old boy:

A. There is a diary for them to use to record homework and teachers will help the children to get into good habits recording their homework.

We also use an app called Edulink where teachers record homework and parents can see what is set. More information on this will follow in September.

Q. I've heard you're allowed to wear Nike air force, 1 trainers, if they're all black and leather is this correct, please?

A. Thank you – that is such a good question and a timely reminder. As I said, we want to work with families and not against them.

The uniform states plain trainers with no obvious logo. The reason behind no logos is to avoid fashions that some families may not be able to afford, or may not wish to buy for school.

I can see that emphasizing this may be necessary, as some children are wearing them and therefore it has become a belief that these are allowed. I was asked this question by someone who had just bought them last year – so thanks for this prompt.

Q. If anyone thought pastoral support may be beneficial could Mrs Knight be contacted before September?

A. Yes - if you contact the school office or Mrs Sibley she can set this up for you and your child. Make sure Mrs Sibley is kept in the loop at first, please.

Q. Can I please put my daughter straight into a shirt and tie instead of a polo shirt in September before the October half term?

A. Yes, we do have a summer uniform which is a polo shirt which the pupils can wear from Easter through to October half term, it is the pupils choice but all have to be in a shirt and tie from October to Easter.

Q. What clubs are there?

A. Lots - Bookclub, art clubs, sports – netball, rounders, football, rugby, running, XTra club – child care.

Q. Do they normally do any Christmas or end of year shows? Also is there a choir/orchestra

A. Yes, concerts at Christmas and summer. Yes, there is a choir and a variety of musical groups - we look forward to them getting up and running again.

We also have end of term and year celebrations, be it assemblies, performances in music/concerts.

Q. How do you ensure that the older children help the Year 5s to adjust and settle in? Are there any opportunities for older years to mentor and support Year 5?

A. Yes, we have pastoral and academic peer mentors. Current year hasn’t allowed this as well as we would like.

Q. For those who haven't been contacted regarding TAC meetings, will this take place in the summer holidays as fast approaching?

Please send in an email or call the office and we will try to help you. Or to Ms Cannon if SEND related ccannon@alamedamiddleschool.org.uk

Q. Are there direct email addresses or contact numbers for the form tutors? Thank you

A. Yes there are,

initialsurname@alamedamiddleschool.org.uk

e.g. Miss Mills is lmills@alamedamiddleschool.org.uk

Q. Hi Miss Warner, sorry to ask again but was there any decision about wearing pe kit to school?

Lots of enquiries. No particular problems noted – lots of people in Favour – just need to write to parents. Thank you for the prompt.

Q. Are the lockers going to be back in use as of September as due to Covid they haven't been available?

A. Yes, there is a £5 deposit, all students require a locker.

Q. Can I ask about drop off and collections? on the tour, we were asked to drop off at the back by the sports hall. if we are driving to drop off in the mornings is this the correct place? I will need my son to use the breakfast club.

A. Yes, sports hall please for drop off as part of safer routes to school.

Q. The 20min reading 5 x per week - is this independent or with an adult?

A. A combination – depending on the child and their needs. There has been lots of research about how listening to others read, reading aloud to others and independently are just as important and the children gain great benefits from this.

7:54 PM

Q. do you offer after school club?

A. Yes

Q. My child was told at the SEND day they need a pass to use the toilet, what’s this?

A. Children are encouraged to use the toilets at breaks. If they ask in lessons, teachers will use their judgement. Toilet passes are here pupils have a need identified, either physical or they may not like to ask.
